Grilled Steak with Onion Mushroom Sauce

Steak. Grill. Sauce. What a great combo!

Whenever I ask my husband what he wants for dinner, he says one of two things...or both. Steak and Shrimp. Well, I made him steak one night, and he had a smile on his face while he was eating. With a side of potatoes of coarse.

Recipe:

Steak of your choice

Sauce:

10-12 medium to large button mushrooms or other mushrooms of your choice
1 medium onion, sliced
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and Pepper
1 Tb flour
2 Tb sherry vinegar
1/2 cup beef broth
1 Tb Worcestershire sauce
1 Tb honey
Red pepper flakes or hot sauce to taste (optional)

To Grill:

Heat grill to medium-high hear, (the meat will reach the desired temp in a short time, while retaining maximum flavor). First, sear the steaks on med-high heat on both sides, then move to medium-low heat and continue cooking, covered until done. If you get flare ups while cooking, move meat to a cooler part of the grill. Every grill has hot-spots.

Checking for doneness: touch the steak with your finger and compare the tension in the meat. Cheek: Raw. Chin: Medium. Forehead: Well done. Or you can use a thermometer, inserted to the center of the meat. 120 degrees: Rare. 130 degrees: Medium-Rare.

Check you meat. It will take about 3-5 minutes per side when grilling.

When it is done, remove and LET REST BEFORE CUTTING. Let the juices return to the meat. Cover with foil on plate to let rest. After it has had a "time-out", then you can dig in!

Sauce:

Slice onions, garlic and half mushrooms, add salt and pepper on medium-high heat. Saute in pan with 2 Tb oil until light brown.

Stir in flour. Then add the rest of ingredients (add honey 1 minute before done) and cook until thickened. About 5-8 minutes. Turn down heat if needed and stir occasionally.

Serve steak with warm sauce and Enjoy!
